SUMMARY:Amy and the Orphans - Audio Described Play
DESCRIPTION:Audio Describer: Celia Hughes \nABOUT THE SHOW: When their 85-year-old father dies\, sparring siblings Maggie and Jake must face a question: How to break the bad news to their sister Amy\, who has Down syndrome and has lived in a state home for years. Along the way\, the pair find out just how much they don’t know about their family and each other. It seems only Amy knows who she really is. \nLOCATION: \nAmy and the Orphans by Lindsey Ferrentino is a heartfelt and darkly funny play about three adult siblings reuniting after their father’s death. As Maggie and Jake road-trip to break the news to their sister Amy\, who has Down syndrome and was institutionalized for much of her life\, long-held family secrets come to light. No prior knowledge or experience is needed\, everyone is welcome.\n\n\n\nJoin us to move\, connect\, and enjoy dance in a space where everyone is welcomed and valued. SUMMARY:Inclusive Dance Teaching with DanceAbility
DESCRIPTION:Organized by Art Spark Texas (Art Spark Dance)\nSpecial thanks to Rosedale Foundation for making this professional learning opportunity possible\nSaturday\, February 28\, 2026 | 4:00–6:00 PM\n**Rosedale School (Austin\, TX) \nWhat is DanceAbility?\nAs dance educators\, we believe integrated dance can reduce isolation and support self-expression and personal growth for people of all abilities. DanceAbility is an improvisation-based method that supports artistic exploration between people with and without disabilities. Through dance and movement\, people from diverse backgrounds practice the art of being together—building connection and strengthening more inclusive communities. \nDanceAbility cultivates common ground for creative expression with equal agency and representation. Movement material is drawn from the group present in the room\, so no one is isolated or singled out. The method supports self-empowerment by offering ways for each person to participate fully and make creative choices—while also respecting personal limits. \nCore principles you’ll learn: Sensation • Relationship • Time • Design\n(often described as self\, others\, and community in motion) \nWhat you’ll leave with: Practical\, adaptable DanceAbility exercises you can use right away\, Tools for inclusive improvisation\, partnering\, and facilitation\, Strategies that support participation for people of all abilities \nWho should attend: Dance educators • teaching artists • classroom teachers • therapists • movement facilitators • anyone curious about inclusive dance practice \nRegister here: https://forms.gle/oB9q7eG6g446B8gh7\nQuestions / Access requests: dance@artsparktx.org

SUMMARY:Lion & Pirate Virtual Inclusive Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:Next Lion & Pirate open mic is March 1\, on Zoom! Sign up to perform or RSVP: https://forms.gle/1DyQmZgvduU2Ui5M8\nZoom link will be posted here the morning of the show.\nWe’re open to work in any genre: music\, spoken word\, improv\, skits\, storytelling\, dance\, poems\, prose… Anything you can perform in 3(ish) minutes!\nRead on for community guidelines and accessibility adventure notes!\nCommunity Guidelines: please read the Art Spark Texas code of conduct before Lion & Pirate events: https://www.artsparktx.org/code-of-conduct/\nIf you are reading work\, note that we use content warnings to keep this space safe and welcoming. Please use them! If you have questions about content warnings\, feel free to ask us before or during an open mic.\nThings we believe:\n– We feel and practice respect for all people and for diversity of thought and identity.\n– We see honesty as a form of love.\n– We acknowledge that free speech is difficult sometimes.\n– We accept that we are unaware of the traumas people within even our own communities are trying to live through\, and we have to teach each other\, learn from each other\, make each other more aware.\nAccessibility adventure notes for virtual performers or attendees:\nCaptions: Zoom has auto-generated captions\, and those are… ok. When possible\, we screen share the words/ lyrics/ poems to each performance so that attendees who need closed captions (CC) get better quality info. Performers are welcome to: screen share their words themselves\, so they can stay on screen OR send an L&P host their words and they’ll do the screen sharing OR paste a link to a document with their words in the chat\, so attendees can decide if they want to see the words or not. If sharing your words ahead of time is not in the cards\, that’s ok\, we’ll do our best to make it work!\nSound quality: We ask all attendees to stay muted when not performing (or cheering). Are you performing with an instrument or accompanying music? Learn how to configure your Zoom settings for a live musical performance: https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb…\nAccess requests: Need something else for virtual participation?
