SUMMARY:Call for Entries: Expressions 2025 Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Mental Illness Awareness Week is an annual national observance that a 1986 presidential proclamation created to recognize “the urgent need to educate the American public about mental illnesses and their treatments.”  The 2025 Mental Illness Awareness Week activities will be held from Oct 5\, 2025 – Oct 11\, 2025.  During this week\, millions of Americans will honor the challenges of mental illness\, as well as celebrate the recoveries they or their loved ones have embraced.\n\nArt Spark Texas is hosting “Expressions” our annual Mental Illness Awareness Week art exhibition at Barshop Jewish Community Center of  San Antonio Texas through the month of October with an art opening on Thursday\, October 23rd from 5:00-8:00 pm.\n\nArt Spark Texas invites all artists ages 18+ in San Antonio and surrounding areas with a mental health diagnosis to submit artwork to the exhibition. There is no entry fee and 2D and 3D works in all media are eligible. SUMMARY:Elements Dance Class (Inclusive)
DESCRIPTION:Art Spark Dance’s Elements class is a once a month dance class that is open to everyone\, with or without disabilities\, to explore and develop their own movement style.\n\nLed by professional dance educators\, the class offers a welcoming and supportive environment where you can discover the joy of dance. In this class\, we will be studying dance improvisation\, a structured form of movement that is less technically rigid.\n\nImprovisation allows dancers to explore and create in the moment. Movement material will be developed through creative explorations\, including body mapping using levels\, shapes\, and dynamic frameworks and our everyday life topics. The goal is to empower you to find your own language of movement\, embracing your individuality and creativity. No prior knowledge or experience is needed\, everyone is welcome.\n\n\n\nJoin us to move\, connect\, and enjoy dance in a space where everyone is welcomed and valued. The class takes place every 3rd Saturday of the month from 2 to 4 PM at the Rosedale School\, located at 7505 Silvercrest Dr\, Austin\, TX 78757.\n\nThere is no registration required\, and the fee is on a sliding scale from $5 to $20; however\, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.  \n\nFor questions email dance@artsparktx.org or call 512-454-9912

Invite your friends and family for this free community event and help us honor our artist winners! \nArtist Awards are in 4 Categories: \nThe Haven Street-Allen Artist of the Year Award honors an individual whose work affirms that the power of an artistic spirit\, combined with determination and will\, can influence and shape our society. Each year\, this award is given to an artist with a disability in Texas who embodies the vision of Art Spark Texas. \nThe Lynn Marie Johnson Media Arts Award honors an artist who displays passion and commitment to the promotion and awareness of people with disabilities in our digital world. Each year\, this award is given to an artist with a disability in Texas whose work as producer\, artist\, writer\, director or other creative in the media arts embodies the mission of Art Spark Texas. \nThe SPARK Award honors an up-and-coming artist who represents the inclusive\, arts-inspired world that Art Spark Texas works to create every day. Each year\, this award is given to an emerging Texas artist with a disability whose infectious and innovative spirit shifts perceptions of what people with disabilities can achieve. \nThe Gloria Bond Creative Aging Award honors an older artist who continues to express their creativity and/or demonstrates a willingness to explore new art forms as they age. Each year\, this award is given to a Texas artist who exemplifies the vital aging philosophy of Art Spark Texas. Nominations are open to any individual over the age of 65 years in any discipline\, including visual art\, dance\, music\, performance\, craft\, media and writing. \nEach award includes an honorarium and an invitation to attend our annual event as a guest of honor to be publicly recognized for their achievements. The 2025 event will be in Austin on Sunday\, September 21st\, 2025 from 1-4 pm at the Rollins Theatre. Travel expenses will be covered for out-of-town awardees. \nA panel of judges will jury nominations and the results will be announced in June 2025.
