Karen Thomas is a tactile craft advocate who enjoys making art that is accessible to everyone. Karen was born into a military family and spent her childhood traveling around Air Force bases before landing in Austin, Texas. Losing significant vision in her early teenage years was a traumatic experience, and she did not think she would ever graduate high school. With the help of braille, she was inducted into the National Honor Society, graduated on time with her public high school class, and was named Youth of the Year by the Exchange Club of Austin, receiving a scholarship. She went on to graduate from the University of Texas at Austin and has fulfilled her dream of becoming a writer and editor. Creating braille cards and drawings is a special project for her. Few things are less exciting than a smooth page to a tactile reader.
