ABOUT NEW MEDIA ARTS
New Media Arts offers a variety of classes and events that blend the traditional visual art disciplines with video, and animation. The New Media Arts curriculum is designed to support young adults as they create and learn new tools and pathways for personal expression.
Our curriculum is founded in UDL principles, and has been tested across many environments over 10+ years. It offers a variety of project based lessons, both group and individual, where students learn storytelling through video, graphic design, product design, photography, stop-motion animation and many more.
Each project is presented as a series of steps, a process for thinking through their art-making, which offers students a structure for academic learning and reinforces higher order thinking.

Art Spark Texas (formerly VSA Texas) has worked for the past 10 years with a diverse group of young adults ages 15 and up to design, develop and pilot our New Media Arts curriculum.
We’d like to thank our longer-term partners that have been a vital part of designing, developing and piloting our New Media Arts curriculum. The transitioning youth came from Austin ISD’s Go! Project, AISD Crockett High School’s Life Skills classes, and partnerships with Odyssey School and Texas Parent To Parent. This effort was led by Carol Stensrud, Ed.D, CTRS and Jerry Slayton, BFA, with assistance from the following, in no specific order: Lucia Ornelas, Alicia Maher, Hannah Lamb-Vines, Dona Davis, Richard Melnick, Carol Gilson, Abby Hahn, Meganthrie Pillay, Jane Comer and Lynn Johnson.
