Foundations is a class for people of all unique mental and physical characteristics. Each class will explore ideas like developing body awareness, non-verbal communication, understanding of time/rhythm and choice making to support students in the discovery of their own movement language. Students will have the opportunity to awaken their creativity, notice habitual movement patterns in order to expand movement possibilities, and have a lot of fun in the process.
As part of Abraham Cruzvillegas's current exhibit of sculptural objects at The Contemporary Austin, he has generously invited a number of artists to "activate" the installation. We're excited to announce that Body Shift has been asked to bring a performance and a workshop into the gallery and participate with this community of artists.

This workshop is designed to encourage movement expressions through improvisation techniques founded upon the free approach to dance and movement pioneered by Barbara Mettler. Participants will be guided through movement explorations to expand movement vocabulary; to sense and feel kinesthetically how his/her/their body moves; and how to bring in his/her/their whole self to the dance. Movement themes will celebrate the natural, authentic dancer within each person and serve to encourage a fully inclusive and participatory creative environment where each individual can contribute to the group experiences.

In place of our regularly scheduled Elements class we will have a Winter Dance Jam. We will start with a guided warm-up to lead us into open dancing with and without music.
