Our second quarterly Beyond Art Showcase took place at ZACH Theatre on Monday evening, and it was truly a memorable night.
Featured artist Devin Gutierrez shared an incredible performance that included both original compositions and beloved classics from some of his greatest musical inspirations, including Billy Joel, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder. His talent, warmth, and love of music created a special experience for everyone in attendance.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the evening was the conversation throughout and audience feedback. We are grateful to Gabriel Lit, Music Therapist, and Mara LaViola, Founder of Sound Collective, for thoughtfully moderating a discussion with Devin about his creative process, artistic inspirations, lived experiences, and the role music has played throughout his life.
Going beyond the artwork itself to explore the stories, perspectives, and creative journeys behind it is at the heart of the Beyond Art Showcase series and our mission to spotlight artists with disabilities.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, asked thoughtful questions, and helped create such a welcoming and engaged atmosphere.
Special thanks to Snarf's Sandwiches for their generous (and delicious!) food donation and to ZACH Theatre for opening their beautiful and centrally located space to local nonprofits on Monday evenings. Their staff made us feel genuinely welcomed, and we couldn't have asked for a better venue.
We're already looking forward to our third Beyond Art Showcase this September, featuring local composer and former Art Spark Texas/TUBU Fest intern Joe Jaxson.
